Images online of historic cemetery
Oct 28 2008 by Chris Robinson, The Journal
A COLLECTION of Gothic images shot in the surroundings of a historic cemetery can be viewed online.
Yesterday The Journal featured a report about new photography classes being held in the grounds of Jesmond Old Cemetery where some of Newcastle’s most famous residents are buried.
The two-part workshops, set up by local photographers Neil Atkinson and David Lane, aim to show that picture-perfect images could be just yards from your front door and not a lengthy car journey to the country.
Jesmond Cemetery was opened in 1836 and contains the original headstone for architect John Dobson and a memorial to Alexander Laing, founder of the city’s art gallery.
Mr Atkinson, who fronted ITV Tyne Tees series A Moment in Time, said the beauty of the wildlife growing inside the popular grounds made it a place full of life, and not just death.
He said fascinating images could be spotted while walking to work, or taking the rubbish out.
Budding snappers can take a quick peak at some images already taken in the cemetery by logging on to journallive.co.uk
