Wildlife photographers focus on national award

PHOTOGRAPHER Jan Wilson isn’t one to duck a challenge.
And her tenacity paid off when her picture of a white-headed duck won her the adult category in Washington Wetland Centre’s photographic competition.
The junior category was won by Bridie Husband, with her image of a redshank.
Both will go forward to the national finals of the WWT Nikon Photography Competition 2008 at the WWT London Wetland Centre later this month.
The white-headed duck bred at WWT Washington for the first time this year. Judges said of Jan’s effort: “This was a strong, natural and well-caught shot. It’s a great image.”
Jan, 47, from Spennymoor in County Durham, works for Durham County Council.
Bridie, 13, of Billingham on Teesside, first picked up a camera two years ago, but she was also WWT Washington’s junior winner last year.
