Bun with health benefits

A MOTHER of a teenage cancer victim yesterday unveiled a special Greggs bun baked to raise money for charity.
Andrea Thompson was at the bakery where she used to work on Blackett Street, Newcastle, to oversee delivery of the new bun, which will aid the Toma Fund.
The fund was set up in memory of her son Jordan David Thompson, a talented footballer who was signed up to Newcastle United Training Academy, but died last year, aged 15.
Andrea, who is working with the Teenage Cancer Trust, hopes the bun will help establish the charity’s £2m new teenage cancer unit at Newcastle’s RVI.
The 30p bun is on sale in 145 Greggs bakeries until Saturday, September 20. A third of the price will go to the cause.
Andrea, of West Denton, was joined by Campbell Bell, 17, and Richard Archer, 16, who trained with Jordan. She said: “I am passionate about doing every- thing I can both to support the continuation and advancement of these services to keep Jordan’s memory alive.”
