FOOTBALLING legend Sir Bobby Robson was on hand to unveil a brand new minibus for Marie Curie Hospice patients yesterday.
The former England and Newcastle manager took time out from his tireless fundraising to lend his support and present the new coach to the hospice.
Purchased by the Friends of the Marie Curie Hospice Newcastle, the £30,000 vehicle will be used to transport around 400 day-care patients to the purpose-built hospice in the West End of Newcastle.
Sir Bobby said: “£30,000 is a lot of money in the current climate, but this is a great facility and it will provide a lot of care for the patients. It’s a big day for them to have this coach. I have recently started my own charity and the response has been phenomenal.
“We are delighted with the support that we have had and we have raised a lot of money. The people of the North East should be applauded on their efforts to support us.”
Michelle Paris, team leader at the hospice, said: “Our day care service enables people to come together to share in various activities from complementary therapies to arts and crafts and relaxation. Without the new minibus, a large number of patients would be unable to attend.”
