The night of all knights to help Sir Bobby raise funds

Early detection and treatment

THE Sir Bobby Robson Foundation will initially focus on early detection and treatment of cancer and will also help support clinical trials of promising new treatments to tackle the disease.

Thanks to overwhelming support from the North East public, football fans, the region’s business community and contributions from Sir Bobby and his friends, it has already raised enough money to set up a Cancer Trials Research Centre in Newcastle.

The money raised will fund dedicated research facilities including a 12-bed unit with treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art laboratory and consulting facilities, all being constructed by the NHS Trust at the Freeman Hospital.

Many of the doctors and nurses working in the new Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre will be funded by Cancer Research UK.

Another walk in the park

SIR Bobby Robson will launch the third Walk in the Park fundraising event in Leazes Park.

For the last two years, the five-mile walk has raised money for Newcastle Hospitals and local NHS charities. This year a number of walkers have nominated Sir Bobby’s cancer foundation.

The five-mile walk, sponsored by Laing O’Rourke, is on Sunday, August 3. Entrance is £5 per adult and £1 for children under 12. The walk starts at noon with registration from 11.30am.
