Elderly pair cut from wreckage after lorry clips car

TWO elderly people were taken to hospital after their car was in collision with a lorry and sent rolling on to its roof.
The accident happened at about 10.15am yesterday on the northbound carriageway of the A1, near the A696 slip road, at Kingston Park, Newcastle.
Firefighters cut the pair from the wreckage and they were taken to Newcastle General Hospital where their injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
The lorry driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution.
A police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 10.15am to the northbound carriageway of the A1 near to Kingston Park.
“Two elderly occupants of a car were treated by paramedics and taken to Newcastle General Hospital.”
The road was closed for a short time, but was reopened within two hours.
A spokeswoman for Tyne and Wear fire service said: “The lorry clipped the car’s side, causing it to flip over before righting itself.”
