Parents and children dig in for school’s garden

PUPILS at a Tyneside school may soon be enjoying more lessons in the open air should they win a prize in The Journal’s Tokens for Schools competition.

Nearly 300 children attend Forest Hall Primary in North Tyneside, and one of the main areas the school would like to improve is the outdoor facilities.

Headteacher Carmel Parker is keen to get parents involved in the scheme by helping to collect the tokens.

“We hope the family and friends of pupils get involved in the competition,” she said.

“The parents are very helpful and we recently had a number of mums and dads out helping to tidy up our wildlife garden.

“Around 10 parents and many more children came out to dig out the nettles and remove the weeds.

“We have a lovely school field, but there is no shade and it would be nice if there was somewhere for the kids to cool down.

“If we get decent weather, it would be brilliant to take the children outside to make the most of our beautiful grounds,” Mrs Parker added.

“The school council have come up with ideas to improve the school. Money for outdoor activities would be brilliant. We have had picnic benches installed and it would be great if we can develop the playing fields.”
