Lulu gives festival something to shout about

SIXTIES pop sensation Lulu is one of the acts performing at this year’s South Tyneside Summer Festival.

Lulu, 59, is set to be joined by a host of both local and nationally renowned performers, offering almost three months of free live entertainment.

The annual festival starts in June with a series of live music events at the Amphitheatre on Sea Road, South Shields.

Performances will run there every Thursday and Saturday throughout the month, starting on June 5 with North East band The New Stories and local rockers Crippling Jack.

Coun Jim Sewell, South Tyneside Council's lead member for culture and wellbeing, said: “We are very proud of our free Summer Festival here in South Tyneside, and this year promises to be a cracker.

“Attracting Lulu to top the bill is a great coup for the borough.”
