A CUSTOMER chased a robber from a shop after he brandished a hammer and demanded money yesterday.
The attempted robbery happened at around 12.30pm in Marine Stores, on Marine Approach, South Shields.
A man entered the shop wielding a hammer and demanded cash, but left empty handed and pursued by a customer.
He was last seen on Wharton Street’s junction with Westoe Terrace, and is described as being in his late 30s or early 40s and wearing dark clothing.
A female member of staff was left shaken but unhurt in the attack.
