Little Einsteins get to grips with science

YOUNG Einsteins yesterday proved it was never too early to get to grips with science as they got hands-on with snails, stars and songs.
Toddlers flocked to the Centre for Life to taste the first pre-school day which offered a range of science-related activities and Piccolo Music sessions designed especially for the under fives.
Activities on offer included an Early Years Planetarium Show in The Dome which uses puppets and astronomy to re-enact the Greek Myth of Andromeda and Perseus.
Musical workshops with the Piccolo music club ran throughout the day as well as space rocket “make and take” sessions.
And pre-schoolers were also given the opportunity to handle some creepy crawlies in the hands-on Mini-Beast Demonstrations.
Ian Simmons, science communication director at the Centre for Life, said: “It’s never too early to encourage an interest in science and there are lots of simple science activities that younger children can understand and enjoy.
“These events have been designed to give toddlers the run of the Centre on a day when older children are at school.
“From musical workshops and toddler friendly trails through to star-gazing in our planetarium show, I'm sure it will be a rewarding experience for little ones and their parents.”
Rachelle Maddison, who was at the centre with son Noah, aged five months, said: “I think the Pre-school Day is a great idea.
“The activities were fun, the staff are helpful and there are baby friendly facilities, I'll certainly be coming to the next one.”
