MORE than 80 children were jumping for joy yesterday when they took part in a mass skipathon.
Pupils from West Jesmond Primary School, Newcastle, put down their pens to help launch a new exhibition at the Centre for Life, in Times Square, Newcastle, called Fit for Fun.
The exhibition is a hands-on learning experience that aims to get people’s hearts racing with a range of shows and events that explore topical health issues.
Ian Simmons, science communications director at the Centre for Life, said: “We want to highlight the things that children and adults can do to exercise in a fun and entertaining way.
“This exhibition gives people a fun way of exploring their fitness and health. It’s not meant to be finger- wagging but to highlight the fun aspects of fitness.”
Among the exhibition is the skip-o-matic robot, an automated skip machine which people have to keep up with.
There is also an armchair bicycle where people race to decide who chooses the channel.
The exhibition begins tomorrow and runs until Tuesday, September 2.
