New hope for cancer sufferers

Cancer Research UK scientists at Newcastle University have developed a new treatment for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

The Newcastle team believe their research could offer hope for the future by paving the way for the drug to be used as a preventative treatment.

They are starting the first UK trial of a new drug which targets the ‘Achilles’ heel’ in hereditary forms of both breast and ovarian cancer by stopping the cancer cells repairing themselves.
