Closing shots of Get Carter car park

AMATEUR film maker and councillor Jonathan Wallace has produced a video of Gateshead’s iconic multi-storey car park to keep as historical records.
Coun Wallace toured the top levels of the building after being given access to the parts of it closed for the past few years.
The car park was made famous by the cult film Get Carter, and has become a familiar landmark on Tyneside.
The building is due to be demolished shortly to make way for a major redevelopment of Gateshead town centre.
He said of the car park: “It is both a landmark and an icon. And the decision to demolish it has also raised further interest in the building.
“The top levels have been closed for many years but a number of interested people were given permission to go to the upper levels. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to go into the restaurant at the top, as this is too dangerous.
“I made the video so that constituents would have a record of the building and a view of Gateshead that is soon to disappear for good.”
The video shot by Coun Wallace is now on YouTube and the Liberal Democrats’ local news site, www.gatesheadnews.blogspot.com The link is: http://uk.youtube. com/watch?v=kASKgolE90k
