Hunt for machete robbers

A SECURITY guard was struck over the head with a machete in a terrifying robbery in which several thousands of pounds in cash was stolen.

At about 9.45pm on Thursday, a security van delivering cash to the Royal Bank of Scotland on the Rosehill Industrial Estate in Carlisle, was attacked by three or four men.

One of the two security staff was struck over the head during a scuffle with the robbers as he tried to fill a cashpoint machine. His attackers made off with an amount thought to be tens of thousands of pounds..

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Duhig said: “We are appealing to the public for help in tracing the movements of a BMW vehicle found close to the scene of the robbery.”
