One place Jonny is always assured of a quiet drink

IF Jonny Wilkinson is looking for the perfect drop after this weekend’s Rugby World Cup final, he knows where to go.
That’s because the landlord at his local pub has said that no matter what the result in Saturday’s huge match, the ace kicker is assured of a quiet, friendly welcome when he next visits.
Jed Irving, landlord at the Traveller’s Rest, near Slaley, Northumberland, said that if his most famous customer wanted to come to the pub to escape the media glare he was more than happy to oblige.
He said: “He is such a quiet guy, when he comes in we normally sit him in the corner where he is tucked away. He is very demure and doesn’t go looking for publicity .”
But Mr Irving added that the pub, which has many rugby fans among its regulars, would be “bouncing” if England were to become the first nation to ever retain the trophy.
“Against France, England looked like a team that weren’t going to lose – we are all hoping it’s going to be the same story against South Africa. If they do win it there has to be a knighthood for Jonny, it has just got to happen.”

Region’s clubs to cheer on England
There will be free food for those watching the game at Ashington Rugby Club and the game will be shown on four television sets and a giant screen.
Among the other Rugby club’s showing the game are Percy Park and Morpeth.
A big screen will be erected at Mowden Park in Darlington and extra seating will be brought in to cope with the expected boost in numbers.
Tynedale have no firm plans as the firsts are playing away in the North-West but they plan to stop off at Penrith to watch the game.
Meanwhile, Blaydon have struck a deal with Cleckheaton Rugby club, who are based just south of Bradford.
Having played their game nearby, they will meet up with friends at the Yorkshire club to watch the match. Bosses at Newcastle Falcons are hoping supporters will flock to their Kingston Park ground to will on the team – particularly the three Falcons stars in England side.
Fans are being invited down to the stadium early to help build the atmosphere.
Drinks and food will be available and the stadium’s Italian pizzeria ristorante Due Diece will also be taking bookings with the game shown live on numerous television around the venue.
