Events mark World Mental Health Day

A RANGE of events to celebrate World Mental Health Day (WMHD) today are taking place throughout the region.
WMHD is a global mental health education campaign organised by the World Federation for Mental Health.
The theme for this year’s campaign is Mental Health in a Changing World: The Impact of Culture and Diversity.
Mental Health Concern and Newcastle Clubhouse are holding an event at Tyneside Irish Centre, Gallowgate, Newcastle from 10am to 4pm. The Tyneside Irish Centre will be hosting the Mental Health Oscars Award Ceremony from 4.30pm-7.30pm.
The Phoenix Centre (Mental Health Matters) is holding a Celebration of Achievement event at the Buddle Arts Centre in Wallsend today at 7pm.
North Tyneside Day Services are holding an event, in conjunction with Tyne Metropolitan College, at the college’s Coast Road Campus, Wallsend, from 2pm, for students. A second event will take place at 60a Bedford Street, North Shields, and is targeted at potential service users, service users and professionals of day services in North Tyneside.
Contact will be in Morpeth Town Hall, holding an autumn fair and awareness-raising event from 10am to 3pm.
Northern Causeway staff and centre users have arranged a special event at the Swan Centre, Tweedmouth, Berwick, between 11am and 3pm.
Kites will be flying on Newcastle Quayside to promote WMHD from 11.30am-3pm.
People with mental health problems and staff from North-East housing association NomadE5 will take part in a sponsored walk from the Hatton Gallery at the University of Newcastle to Gosforth Business Park.
An art exhibition will be held at the university’s Long Gallery in celebration of the artistic skills and creativity of those assisted by the Nomad E5 care and support team.
