SHOPPERS are to be banned from parking in a busy Morpeth street to free spaces for people who live there.

County councillors have approved a residents-only system in Oldgate after a zebra crossing used up half the available spaces.

Ex-mayor dies

FORMER Morpeth mayor and past president of the town's Rotary Club, Harold Dodds, has died at the age of 83.

Mr Dodds had been a local councillor, magistrate and captain of Morpeth golf club.
