Kielder Forest mystery that has never been solved

In 1999, the discovery of a tent abandoned deep in Kielder Forest sparked a similar mystery which to this day remains unsolved.
Police in Hexham ended up contacting Interpol after the luxury four-man tent was found by a forestry surveyor two miles from the nearest habitation.
Stories then emerged about a man known as "Barnes from Brussels", who told locals he was carrying out fishery studies at Kielder. But Maff, the Forestry Commission and the European Commission, denied any knowledge of the man.
A local landlord then came forward, saying a well-dressed man calling himself Sir Philip Harvey-Barnes, who claimed to be working for the European Union, had frequented his pub. Searches in Who's Who and Burke's Peerage failed to come up with any record of the mysterious Sir Philip.
