Concerns over walls
Aug 17 2006 By The Journal
New concerns have been raised about the deteriorating condition of stretches of the river bank walls at Berwick.
Local councillors fear that unless repairs are carried out there could be problems with flooding in some areas in Tweedmouth in particular.
Hopes that the work might be carried out in the current financial year were dashed when a budget bid for funding was rejected.
Better security
NEW steps are to be taken to improve the security of confidential and sensitive personal data being held in the headquarters and other offices of Berwick Borough Council.
It follows an audit which has revealed that documents were not always locked away in cabinets and cupboards and in some cases access could be obtained by unauthorised staff.
Parking record
BERWICK Borough Council's income from off street car parks hit a record level in the past financial year.
Accounts show that the total was just under £900,000 with a further £31,000 coming from the local authorities share of Northumberland County Council's on-street parking charges in the area.
Savings review
COUNCILLORS in Berwick are planning to commission a report on the possibilities for future savings in corporate costs. It forms part of the borough council's requirement to make annual savings of £200,000.
