Any ideas on how to spend £50,000?

People in a Northumberland town are being asked for their views on how to spend £50,000 which has been earmarked by council chiefs for community projects.

Blyth Valley Council has allocated the cash for schemes in Cramlington and wants ideas and suggestions on how it should be spent.

Local people are invited to voice their opinions at the next meeting of the Cramlington Community Assembly in the Cramlington Village community centre at 7.15pm on Thursday, August 31.

Local community groups will be able to get details about how to apply for a slice of the funds at the meeting.

Also on the agenda is an update on the progress of the Streetworks project, a joint venture between the council, Blyth Valley Housing and local people in the Eastfield area of the town.

The project, which started in September last year, came about after residents raised concerns about the general state of their area.

Now an action plan is being drawn up to tackle the problems.

Paul Taylor, community development officer at the council, said: "The response to the Streetworks project so far has been excellent.

"Residents have given us valuable information about the area and a lot of issues have been identified.

"We hope that by working together with local people we can put the interventions in place to bring about long-term change for the area."
