NEWCASTLE United owner Mike Ashley must go now to end the heartbreaking “uncertainty” surrounding the club, a top Government minister has demanded.

North East Minister Nick Brown weighed into the debate, blasting the current “disastrous” set-up at the club as efforts continue to sell crisis-hit Newcastle United with Mr Ashley slapping a £100m price tag on the Magpies.

Numerous offers have reportedly been put forward as fans are left worried about the upcoming season in the Championship, which gets underway tomorrow.

Speaking exclusively to The Journal, Mr Brown said: “It breaks my heart. Mike Ashley hasn’t made a go of it.

“He should call it a day, sell up to somebody who can make a go of it and who has sufficient money to give it a decent go this year and have an exciting campaign to get back in the Premiership where we belong.” Mr Brown, Labour MP for Newcastle East and Wallsend, was speaking as Mr Ashley’s latest bid to sell the club appeared on the verge of collapse.
