Durham Cathedral choir take to the stage
Jun 4 2009 by Barbara Hodgson, The Journal
Originally it was the ‘monks in quire’ who sang the monastery services, but for at least 600 years singing boys or choristers have been educated in its precincts.
Michael Sadgrove, Dean of Durham, said: “Durham Cathedral and The Sage Gateshead are both places where the arts are celebrated in truly great buildings.
“I am delighted that this concert brings them together for an evening that will not only be hugely enjoyable but will also support such a worthwhile cause.”
All money raised, above costs, will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust to support young people in their fight against cancer and a new unit at Newcastle’s Great North Children’s Hospital.
* Durham Cathedral comes to The Sage Gateshead tomorrow at 7.30pm. Call (0191) 443-4661.
