New chief for Northern Rock’s charity arm

CHARITY group the Northern Rock Foundation has picked a new boss.

Penny Wilkinson has been appointed the new chief executive of the one of the region’s most important charities.

Ms Wilkinson is the former head of the North East’s museums, libraries and archives quango and has spent nearly 20 years working in the region.

Last night the new charity boss said: “I have always been impressed by the work of the Foundation which has made a major contribution to improving the quality of life in North East England and Cumbria and I look forward to continuing this work, particularly in the area of social justice.”

And her appointment was welcomed by Foundation chairman Alastair Balls.

He said “The trustees recognised Penny’s outstanding qualities and reputation in her former role as chief executive of Museums, Libraries and Archives, North East.
