Peter Atkinson MP expenses
THE region’s only Tory MP spent thousands of pounds replacing windows at his London second home courtesy of taxpayers.
Hexham’s PETER ATKINSON claimed £1,872.50 for windows and 82 for two replacement blinds from Ikea in July 2008. A month later, a £250 claim was submitted for carpet cleaning. A replacement £44.97 microwave was claimed for in November last year.
In January this year, a bill for windows costing £869.60 was submitted ahead of another totalling £2,557.40 in March. Mr Atkinson, who is stepping down at the next election, said: “I did it over a period time. They were all rotten. They were unsecure and leaking and inefficient”. The Hexham MP’s claims totalled £24,006 in the previous financial year.
