Just one week left to apply for Great North Run places

Great North Run 2010 - Anne-Marie Ollivere and Helen McGowan of Consett arrive at South Shields

For the fifth year in a row, we have exclusive access to the last 100 spots in the world’s biggest half-marathon.

And with the Great North Fitness Revolution sweeping the region, there’s never been a better time to take part in the iconic 13.1-mile race.

Journal editor Brian Aitken said: “Having done the Great North Run twice myself, I know it is fantastic for anyone who wants to set themselves a big challenge.”

As a special incentive, one of our last 100 runners will receive a golden ticket entitling them to two VIP hospitality passes to be enjoyed on the day.

Taking place on September 18, the Great North Run promises to be a highlight of the sporting calendar.

Last year’s 30th anniversary run saw a record number of people take to the streets for the Newcastle to South Shields race.

Geordie comedy duo Ant and Dec joined a star-studded line-up to fire the starting gun as 54,000 people put months of training into practice.

And now The Journal is offering the final chance to get involved in this year’s event.

David Hart, communications director at Great North Run organiser Nova International, said: “We think it’s fitting that the last 100 places for the Bupa Great North Run will go to readers of The Journal.

“The relationship between The Journal and the Great North Run is now into its fourth decade and has been further strengthened by the launch of the Great North Fitness Revolution.”

Nova International is also encouraging runners to sign-up for its warm-up event, the Bupa Great North 10k.

Taking place in Gateshead on July 17, the race is held just nine weeks before the Great North Run.

The 10k is an ideal training goal to work towards throughout the summer as part of the Great North Fitness Revolution.

Entries for the Great North 10k Gateshead are open at www.greatrun.org/north10k

To apply for one of our last 100 places, visit www.journallive.co.uk/greatnorthrunplaces and tell us, in fewer than 200 words, why you want to join our fitness revolution and take part in the race.

Those who win a place will be notified by email after the competition closes on June 30. A registration fee of £50 will then be payable by those who are successful.

Runners must be 17 or over on the day of the race.
