Carolyn Forster nominated for Bupa Great North Run Award

“We completed the run in three hours and 12 minutes – a time to beat in 2010.”

The Bupa Great North Run Award, which will be presented at a star-studded dinner in April, celebrates inspirational stories like Carolyn’s that help to make the half marathon so special.

Friend and colleague Dianne, who lives in Cramlington, Northumberland, with husband Steve, an IT manager, said: “I would love to see Carolyn recognised with an award.

“She’s the most determined lady who wants to show that she can do as good as any non-disabled person. She was determined to do the run as a personal challenge and I told her she wasn’t doing it without me.

“Carolyn is showing everyone that disabled people can take part in mainstream activities.

“She only needed help on the incline and pushed herself the rest of the way. The three of us crossed the finish line together and it was amazing.

“It’s challenging the stereotype and saying I can do it and so can you.”

To nominate your own Great North Run hero, e-mail kim.carmichael@ncjmedia.co.uk, call 0191 2016290 or write to the Great North Run Award, The Journal Newsdesk, Groat Market, NE1 1ED.
