OAP Keith Minton is a Great North hero

Mr Minton, who lives with wife Christine, 72, at their home in Edgewell Grange, said he wants to run the 13.1-mile challenge from Newcastle to South Shields at least until next year, when he turns seventy. “To do the run at seventy would be great,” he said. “It really is a marvellous event which is now an international event.
“It’s something to be proud of – it is a big part of the North East’s identity now.”
The charity dinner will again be honouring those individuals who over the years have made a special contribution to the BUPA Great North Run – not just the victors from the Olympian world of elite athletes but also volunteers, administrators, fundraisers and celebrity supporters from the last 28 years.
A Hall of Fame was established two years ago to make sure these individuals would be recognised for helping to turn the event into such a large-scale sporting fixture.
More than one million runners have now braved the gruelling route and millions more around the globe have tuned in to watch their efforts.
So if you know someone who you feel has helped the event grow into the world’s biggest half-marathon, or you have an inspirational story to tell about someone you think could be worthy of the award, we want to hear from you.
