THREE of the North East’s biggest universities are going green. Durham University, Newcastle University and Sunderland University have been working with the Energy Saving Trust advice centre to work out ways to encourage their students and staff to save energy.
Experts from the Trust’s advice centre have been able to tailor their tips to the individual needs of each university to help them get the best out of their energy saving efforts.
The Energy Saving Trust advice centre aims to work with businesses and organisations to make corporate social responsibility and environment policies more relevant to staff and customers.
Trust bosses thing the best way of doing this is to give employees advice on what they can do in their own lives to reduce their carbon footprints.
Newcastle University has been working to encourage staff and students to go green, by promoting initiatives like on-campus recycling.
Cara Tabaku, assistant energy manager for Newcastle University, said: “The Energy Saving Trust advice centre have been able to support the work we are doing at the university to encourage staff and students to be more environmentally aware.
