NORTHUMBERLAND Wildlife Trust has welcomed Balfour Beatty Construction Northern Limited as its latest green champion.
Balfour Beatty has been based in the North East for over 30 years as one of the region’s leading contractors with projects including the award-winning Aquatic Centre in Sunderland; University Hospital North Durham; Turnbull Building in Newcastle and the Sunderland Building Schools for the Future project.
Balfour Beatty Construction’s environment policy states that it will “protect and enhance both the natural and built environment”. This is achieved through its 14001:2004 certified management system.
The company understands the impacts construction can have on the local wildlife therefore its staff work closely with their customers, supply chain and environmental consultants to determine the best solutions for all. It endeavours to plant more trees than its takes down and wherever possible plant native species to encourage local wildlife to achieve a net ecological gain.
The corporate membership will ensure that the wildlife charity is able to carry on with its vital conservation work throughout the region.
Mike Pratt Northumberland Wildlife Trust said: “It is wonderful that such a recognised and respected company such as Balfour Beatty is supporting a wildlife charity such as ourselves.
“From dormice to grasslands, Balfour Beatty’s financial support will enable us to protect the natural heritage of the region for future generations to enjoy. I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the company.”
