Eye-catching artworks for Kielder Water

Katie Ramsay, eight, said: “It was fun because you could climb around in it and play. It was interesting to look out of the eyes.”

The head is made from 107 layers of wooden blocks by Simparch artists’ collective from Chicago.

Peter Sharpe, art and architecture curator with the Kielder Partnership, said: “The concept for the head was inspired by stories of Northumberland’s folklore heritage.”

Other new features are:

Freya’s Cabin on the south side of the lake and Robin’s Cabin on the opposite shore.

55/02 are overlapping steel shelters with a moveable screen so people can alter the configuration of the layout according to conditions.

Janus Chairs, by Newcastle’s Ryder Architecture, are three large rotating seats based on a flower petal design.

Specere is the only feature not linked to the Lakeside Way.

The timber shelter, based on a system of triangles, is at the 1,900ft summit of Deadwater Fell. Peter said: “They are places to stop, enjoy the views and entertain visitors.”
