For the Living Frontier Regia Anglorum will recreate a Viking encampment within the walls of Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields.
It’s very much a family affair for Liz and Richard, with teenage sons Phillip and Daniel often taking part too.
Liz said: “As a family we’ve always been interested in history and this is a natural extension of that. People are usually intrigued by what we do but friends who come and see us love it and understand why we take part.”
Hadrian’s Wall Heritage Ltd’s Linda Tuttiett said: “People from all walks of life will come together for what promises to be one of the biggest and most exciting re-enactments this country has ever seen. For the first time in 1,600 years there will be a full century of Roman soldiers from all over Europe along the Wall.”
Grandmother and Civil War colleague Ann Thomas said: “It beats knitting. I think it’s going to be an amazing event that will really bring history alive to people of all ages.”
