A SECURITY van has been robbed at gunpoint in Newcastle city centre.
Police were called at 3.50pm today after two men approached the guard on St James' Boulevard and threatened him with a shotgun.
They escaped with a large sum of cash.
The robbers drove off in a white 4x4 which was found a short time later on fire in Gateshead.
Police enquiries ongoing and anyone who saw anything or who has any information is asked to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number
