Second man in court on charge of Andrew Lucas murder

A SECOND man has appeared in court charged with the murder of 20-year-old Andrew Lucas.

Paul Andrew Mallin, 35, of Dunstanburgh Close, Washington, spoke only to confirm his name and address when he appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court earlier today.

Andrew Lucas was found with mutiple stab wounds in the street outside his home at Warkworth Close in Oxclose, Washington, Tyne and Wear, on November 3.

The 20-year-old, who was originally from Hebburn in South Tyneside, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction of Mr Mallin’s case.

Paul Anderson, for the prosecution, said: “This is a case of some seriousness and can only be heard at crown court.”

Chairman of the bench Alex Hendry told Mr Mallin the case will be  heard  at Newcastle Crown Court.

He is due there on Monday December 31 and will be remanded in custody until then.

Mark Spalding, 45, of no fixed address, was charged with murder later that month and awaits a trial at Newcastle Crown Court in April.
