Two arrested after suspected stolen car crashes into tree

A TEENAGER broke his leg and two others were arrested after a suspected stolen car ploughed into a tree.

A Suzuki Ignis left the road and sparked a police investigation during the Boxing Day crash in South Tyneside.

Officers were called to Victoria Road West, Hebburn, at around 4am yesterday morning to reports of an accident.

They were forced to close the road and a 17-year-old boy and 22-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking.

A third man, aged 18, was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria infirmary for treatment to a suspected broken leg.

Just hours after the crash police were contacted by a resident in Jutland Avenue, Hebburn, who said the Suzuki had been stolen from their property.

A spokeswoman said: “At 6am yesterday police received a report that the Suzuki had been stolen from Jutland Avenue in Hebburn.”

Police today urged any witnesses to come forward and contact them urgently on the non-emergency number 101.
