A MAN died after his car crashed on a major route in North Tyneside.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene on the Coast Road near Wallsend at around 7.20pm last night, Tuesday, November 27.
Officers say only one vehicle was involved in the smash and they are now appealing for witnesses.
It is believed the red Golf car rolled several times before coming to a rest on its side on the west-bound carriageway near the Formica factory.
The North East Ambulance Service reported that one man died in the crash and a dog was also killed.
The road was closed for around three hours while a traffic investigation took place.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Police are now appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash on the Coast Road.
“At 7.19pm on Tuesday, November 27, police received a report of a one vehicle crash on the Coast Road near to the Formica slip road in North Tyneside.
“Police, ambulance and fire services attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other casualties. The vehicle involved was a red Volkswagon Golf.”
