Hebburn Christmas lights switch on postponed due to rain

COUNCILLORS have postponed the switch on of Hebburn's Christmas lights after heavy rain brought flooding to Tyneside.

The event, that was due to take place Fountains Park tonight, has instead been rescheduled for Thursday, at 4.30pm, when Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Eileen Leask will flick the switch alongside Paralympic swimming sensation Josef Craig.

As well as the lights, on Thursday Christmas carols being sung by pupils from St Aloysius Primary School and children’s entertainment will be provided by Mr Merlin and Christmas Crackers, who will be mingling with the crowds.

However a spokesman for South Tyneside Council said unfortunately, Tommy The Trumpeter will not be able to make it as he is taking to the stage at the Customs House for the opening night of Dick Whittington.
