A MAN has been found dead by the road after a suspected hit and run
At around 2.40am this morning police received a report that a vehicle had clipped a pedestrian in the Claypath area of Durham and then drove off.
A man was found lying in the road between two parked cars and was pronounced dead.
The scene is currently cordoned off as police investigate but is due to reopen soon, officers say.
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out later today.
Police want to speak to anyone who was in the Claypath area near its junction with Gilesgate between 2am and 3am today. Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Durham Police on 101.
