FORECASTERS are warning people to be prepared as heavy rain continues to lash the North East.
With a weather front that has already brought chaos and flooding across the country arriving in the region households, particularly in hills areas are being told to brace for potential flooding.
In Cumbria torrential downpours have already forced people to leave their homes as more than a month’s worth of rain fell in 24 hours.
Up to 10cm of water fell overnight and the Environment Agency issued around 140 flood warnings and alerts in northern regions.
A Met Office spokeswoman said: “Over the weekend, most of the rain in the North-East will hold up on the Pennines and Dales, but overnight on Saturday there will be a few hours of heavy rain, with 10 to 15mm falling.
“On top of what we have had, it could lead to flooding and make driving conditions very difficult.”
