Drivers warned to take it slow after A66 partially closed

MOTORISTS are being advise to slow down and take account of the adverse weather conditions after police closed the eastbound A66.

Cumbria Police have shut the carriageway heading towards the North East after "at least one" lorry jack-knifed in icy conditions following heavy snowfall.

A spokesman for Durham Police said they would continue to monitor the situation on the westbound side of the road in case it too needs to be closed in the interests of public safety.

But in the meantime he urged drivers to realise that the road conditions were particualrly bad for the tiem of year and drive accordingly.
