POLICE have named a man who died following a house party at the weekend.
He was Gareth Phillips, 29, from South Tyneside. Officers have not released his full address.
A murder probe was launched after his death, and detectives sealed off Thames Road, in Hebburn, after Mr Phillips suffered a head injury on Saturday night.
He was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where he died at around 2.45pm on Monday.
A 41-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police are asking that anyone with information about events on Thames Road on the night in question - Saturday night into Sunday morning, January 7 and 8 - and who may have heard an argument or disturbance to come forward and contact officers on the new 101 non-emergency number ext 69191 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
