Take That fans told to plan travel to Stadium of Light

TAKE That fans are being urged to plan ahead to avoid chaos on the regions roads and trains this weekend.

A quarter of a million people are set to descend on Sunderland for the fab fives sell-out concerts at the Stadium of Light.

But with a number of new travel options available on the event days, concert-goers are advised to work out now how they plan to get to and from the ground.

Drivers are warned that Millennium Way, Stadium Way and the entire Sheepfolds Industrial Estate will be subject to tight traffic restrictions, with some roads completely closed.

While two of the Wearmouth Bridge's three northbound lanes will be closed between 10pm and 1am on Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday nights to protect pedestrians.

For those looking to drop friends and family off, visitors from the south should use the A1018 and A690 exits from the A19 and drop visitors off in the city centre, with drivers from the north using the Sunderland Enterprise Park.

Anyone looking to park their car can also do so at the Sunderland Enterprise Park, use one of 1,300 spaces being offered by the University of Sunderland for an all-day rate of £5, or try the National Glass Centre's car park on Dame DorothyStreet.

Those looking to use public transport will also find extra bus and Metro services laid on with trains leaving the stadium stop until 1am.

Richard McClean, managing director of Metro operator DB Regio Tyne and Wear, said he was expecting a large rise in the number of people using the service over the Bank Holiday weekend.

"As such, we want to ensure their journey remains as stress free and prompt as possible," he said.
