A CAR crashed into the side of a house while a mother and baby were at home.

Northumbria police are now appealing for information after the car smashed into the wall of a house in the Severn Court area of Sunderland at around 5.20am today.

Police, fire services and paramedics attended the scene but no one was injured.

Officers arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the crash and he is helping police with their enquiries.

Structural engineers from the local authority have been out to the address to asses the damage. The area has been cordoned off until repairs can be made.
