Burnopfield teenager charged after ricin discovery
A TEENAGER was today charged after an anti-terror raid found a jam jar of poison ricin in his home.
Officers swooped on the house in Burnopfield, near Stanley, last Tuesday and arrested 41-year-old lorry driver Ian Davison.
They also arrested his son Nicky, 18, at his home in Grampian Court, Annfield Plain, Stanley, on suspicion of being members of a white supremacist group.
Since the arrest, specialist officers carried out what they described as a "meticulous" search of the house, number 3 Myrtle Grove, Burnopfield.
And today Nicky Davison was charged under section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
This section relates to "the collection, making, or the possession of information which could be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism."
He is due before Westminster Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
Det Supt Neil Malkin, who is leading the investigation, said: "The tests made by the scientists at Porton Down confirmed what we had already been told, that traces of ricin were in the jar found inside the house.
"Further searches of the property will therefore be carried out by officers wearing protective clothing."
