Worker dies after accident at Newcastle Airport

POLICE are investigating after an worker was killed at Newcastle Airport this morning.
A spokeswoman for the airport said: “Newcastle International Airport can confirm that at 4.15am an accident occurred on the apron, resulting in the fatality of a 50 year old man who worked at the airport.
“An investigation is now being carried out by Northumbria Police and the Health and Safety Executive. Newcastle International Airport will cooperate fully with this investigation.”
Flights into and out of the airport are operating as normal. The accident did not involve an aircraft.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria police said: “We were called to the airport at 4.15 this morning following an accident which resulted in the death of a 50 year old man. An investigation is being carried out.”
