County Durham motorist saves man from mugger

Police are appealing for a motorist whose sudden arrival brought an end to a street mugging to come forward.
The 43-year-old victim was attacked as he walked along Stephenson Way in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham in the early hours of the of Sunday as he headed home from Blakes nightclub in the town.
He was pushed over a barrier into the road by his assailant who pinned him to the ground and took money from his trouser pocket before running off when a car suddenly drove into Burnhill Way.
The attacker is described as in his early 20s of stocky build between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall and wearing a black hooded jumper and woollen hat and dark trousers.
Durham police are keen to speak to the driver who may hold vital clues to the attack which left the victim with cuts and bruises.
