ALAN SHEARER tonight gave his verdict on the Kevin Keegan saga.
The Geordie hero, who today ruled himself out of the running to be the next manager at St James's Park, appeared to come down firmly on the side of 'King Kev'.
Shearer, whose opinion still carries a lot of weight with the fans, said: "The supporters are hurt, they are disappointed and I feel for them because we all want success for the club. I’m a fan just like them.
"There will be a million names which will be thrown around now.
"The club has a strange set-up at the moment.
"If you've got three, four, or five players waiting for you and you don’t know who they are, then you have got the right to ask yourself 'Can I manage this football club?.
"You live and die by the decisions you make as a manager, and that includes buying players. If the manager can’t do that there is no point in him being there.
"It's a dangerous run when you go into a football club and the director of football is not appointed by yourself.
"There can only be one person who is [ultimately] responsible for buying players."
