North East mining villages in line for development

Easington District Council has appointed planning consultants Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners to look at opportunities for regenerating Thornley and Wheatley Hill.

Both areas have suffered significant decline since the closure of the mines due to unemployment and an ageing housing stock.
