Man charged over Kenton gun incident

A man was due in court today charged in connection with a gun scare in Kenton, Newcastle, on Wednesday night.

A man said to be threatening members of the public was shot by police officers at an address in Redland Avenue before being wrestled to the ground, subdued with a Taser gun and arrested.

Today David John Bates, 22, of Banbury Road, Kenton, was due before city magistrates charged with posessing a firearm or imitation firearm with itent to cause fear or violence.
