Pensioner blown into side of car

A pensioner was seriously hurt when she was blown into a passing car by a gust of wind.

Isabella Gair, 75, was on Strawberry Place in Newcastle city centre when she hit the side of a Peugeot at approximately 2pm yesterday.

The elderly woman, of Leam Lane, Gateshead, was treated in Newcastle General Hospital for serious injuries.

Strong winds, some gusting up to 84mph, battered parts of the North East until late on Tuesday.
