Man hospitalised after house fire

A man was taken to hospital after firefighters tackled a blaze that gutted a kitchen.

The fire started at approximately 11.45pm last night in a home on Worcester Place, Bishop Auckland. Two people were reported trapped in the house but both were safely evacuated and no-one was seriously hurt.

Three fire engines were called to the scene and a man was taken to Bishop Auckland General Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
